Fort Federica National Monument
The FortFedericaNational Monument can be found on St.SimonsIsland, Georgia. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the monument is in recognition of a fort and town that was built in 1748 to protect the southern end of Georgia, then a British colony, from the invading Spanish. The town got the name Frederica from Frederick, Prince of Wales, who was the son of King George II. [top]
Turner Field
The Atlanta Braves of the National League originated in Boston, then moved to Milwaukee, and finally ended up in Atlanta in 1966. Home games were played at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium until 1997. It was then that they moved into Turner Field, which was named for Ted Turner, the team’s owner. The stadium started out as Olympic Stadium, site of the 1996 Olympic Games. It was renovated for baseball and seats just under 50,000. [top]
