Fort McHenry in Baltimore, Maryland played an important part in the War of 1812. The soldiers stationed there defended Baltimore Harbor from the British Navy’s attack. During the incessant bombing, a man by the name of Francis Scott Key was provided with the inspiration to write a poem called “The Star-Spangled Banner.” In time, the poem was set to music and became the United States’ national anthem.  [top]

From 1894 until 1982, the Lyric Opera House had presented a fine array of operas and symphonic concerts. However, when the Baltimore Symphony left in 1982, the Lyric felt compelled to go in an entirely different direction. Ford's Theatre in Maryland

Ford's Theatre

Ford’s Theatre opened to the public in 1863. Two years later, it was completely shut down after President Abraham Lincoln was gunned down by John Wilkes Booth while watching a play. One year after that devastating event, the government bought the theatre. Over the years, it was used for various and sundry purposes, such as a warehouse, a museum, and an office building.
