Roosevelt Arch
Located at the north entrance to Yellowstone National Park in Gardiner, Montana, the Roosevelt Arch was named for American President Theodore Roosevelt in 1903. He actually laid the cornerstone for the arch himself. When you visit this historic spot, make sure to read the top of the arch. It’s inscribed with the words "For the benefit and enjoyment of the people," which came from the original legislation that brought Yellowstone to fruition. [top]
Yellowstone National Park
The world’s first national park, Yellowstone is famous for its incredible wildlife and such amazing geothermal landmarks like Old Faithful Geyser. The park, which was signed into legislation in 1872 by American President Ulysses S. Old Faithful Geyser
The most well-known of all the geysers in Yellowstone National Park, Old Faithful must be seen to be believed. Part of the Old Faithful Historic District, the geyser, which was formally named in 1870, has eruptions that can shoot anywhere from 3,000 to 8,000 gallons of boiling hot water up to 185 feet into the air. These eruptions, of which there have been over 137,000 recorded, can last from one to five minutes. [top]
Mammoth Hot Springs
People have been coming to the Mammoth Hot Spring Terraces in Yellowstone National Park in Montana for over a century to soothe their aching bones or just to unwind. There are five terraces in all, including Opal Terrace, Minerva Spring and Terrace, Orange Spring Mound, New Highland Spring, and Canary Spring and Terrace. Temperatures in these toasty hot springs can reach 160 degrees Fahrenheit. [top]
