Pentagon
The headquarters of the United States’ Department of Defense, the Pentagon is located in Arlington County, Virginia. The largest office building in the world by floor area, the Pentagon features 6,500,000 square feet of space. A little more than half of that is used for offices. The building has five sides, five floors, and five corridors on each floor. The Pentagon employs close to 23,000 military and civilian workers. [top]
National Zoo
It’s a zoo like no other. Situated on 163 acres in the center of Washington, DC, the National Zoological Park cares for more than 2,000 animals of 400 varying species. The main campus of George Mason University is in Fairfax, Virginia. It was named after George Mason, who was an American patriot and founding father. Originally founded as a branch of the University of Virginia in 1957, the school went solo 15 years later. A largest collection of historic air and spacecraft is on display at the Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC. The National Mall Building features the original Wright Brothers 1903 Flyer, Charles Lindbergh’s Spirit of St. Louis, and the Apollo 11 command module. Mount Vernon
Situated close to Alexandria, Virginia, Mount Vernon was the plantation home of the George Washington. A National Historic Landmark, Mount Vernon invites visitors to explore the mansion and elegant estate, which features a botanical garden.
